GLENORCHY
At the head of Lake Wakatipu, Glenorchy is often referred to as the 'Gateway to Paradise' and it is also the gateway to some of New Zealand's great walking tracks; Routeburn, Greenstone, Caples, Rees and Dart.
Glenorchy is a small settlement steeped in Maori and gold mining history and until recently, remained relatively unknown. Just a 45-minute scenic drive from Queenstown, the adventure capital of New Zealand, the pace of life relaxes and the setting is tranquil.
As mentioned above; the Lord of The Rings Trilogy of movies has put Glenorchy (like other remote NZ locations) and its environs on the world map. The natural beauty of the area, the ancient beech forest and rugged mountains, provided an ideal backdrop for so many of the films scenes. It is no surprise that you will see most of these locations during a Paradise Found tour or combo.
In addition to the obvious scenic attractions, Glenorchy also offers visitors the opportunity to explore it's township where you will find a couple of pubs & cafes, a possum fur trader, small museum, golf course and a number of picturesque short walks.
