Sylvan Lake Trail
A half-day guided walk
| The Sylvan Lake Trail is located in the Routeburn Valley within the Mt. Aspiring National Park. Access to the trail is via a swing bridge crossing the Routeburn River, where you may be lucky enough to spot a Rainbow Trout. The trail leads into stunning native beech forest where relics from the early logging days still remain, including an old tram line. The looped track is approximately 2.5 hours of easy walking, and reveals stunning alpine views of Mt. Earnslaw at several points along the way. Our entertaining and knowledgeable guides will provide interpretive commentary. The Department of Conservation have monitoring and trapping programs running throughout the year to protect our native bird and plant species, a topic of great interest to many. Mt. Aspiring National Park is so rich and diverse that it has been named a World Heritage Area and should definitely not be missed! |
