White Water Rafting
Jet boating isn't the only activity available on the mighty Shotover River - it also offers some of the South Island's best white water rafting. With seven grade 3-5 rapids and a dark 170m long tunnel, this is not for the faint-hearted. Although previous rafting experience is not necessary, you do need to know how to swim and have a keen sense of adventure to take on the challenge of this wild and untamed river! Heli-rafting is also available year-round, and from June to mid September by helicopter is the only way to raft the Shotover, as the access road becomes impassable. Bring swimwear and a towel; all other equipment is provided. Departs at 8am and 1pm daily; allow 4.5hrs return to Queenstown.
Prices:
Shotover Rafting: $195pp
Shotover Heli-raft: $279pp

Canyoning
Canyoning (known as canyoneering in the U.S) is one of the world's fastest growing adrenalin water sports. It involves travelling down creeks or streams within a canyon by a variety of means - walking, scrambling, climbing, abseiling/rappelling, jumping and swimming. Queenstown offers a local half-day trip (allow 3.5hrs return to Queenstown, up to 2 hours of canyoning), or a full-day trip to the Routeburn canyon (allow 7hrs return to Queenstown, 3 hours of canyoning), which also includes a 20 minute walk through World Heritage primary rain forest. Bring swimwear and a towel; all other equipment is provided. Half day departs at 9am and 1.30pm, full day at 9.30am.
